Marietta, Georgia. The residence is part of a series of projects incorporating 'Gradients' as a generative tool for architectural studies. The origin of the design work is based on three distinct typological components. The emergent gradient body was then evaluated and developed into a single family residence building. The building form is organized and oriented in three directions to establish a multiplicity of views into the landscape. The 2 -story building layout allows for a clear division between private and public functions. Entertainment and amenities are based on the ground floor, while the rather private living and sleeping areas are situated on the upper level. The concept for the art piece is based on visual effects of reflection and geometrical interference of distorted surfaces. The sculpture occupies the Box office wall within the Convention Center atrium and synthesizes a spatial link of all levels through both visual and physical connections. The contemporary artwork is developed as a contrast to the architecture of the building introducing a visual focus point the space. The sculpture is presented as a distorted field condition within a 3dimensional matrix of extrusion. The colorful pattern distributed within the field allows for multiple readings and a playful ambiguity between surface, overlay and visual perception. The material choice of colored aluminum, highlighted within a spectrum of multiple colors, is a balanced towards the interior qualities and tonality of the Convention Center atrium. The sculpture is constructed out of flat tessellated sheets of aluminum. Tessellation is the process of creating a two-dimensional plane using the repetition of a geometric shape with no overlaps and no gaps. The projects geometry consists of multiple single surface highlighting intrinsic and extrinsic qualities throughout the geometrical deformation. The changing reflections and patterns created by the sculpture during day and night within the atrium space will allow for continuously new visual experiences for its occupants. It's initial design strategy incorporated a gradient connection between three distinct typology components. The emergent gradient body was then evaluated and developed into a Single family residence building. The building form is organized within a centralized circulation shaft and oriented in three directions to establish a multiplicity of views into the landscape. The 2 1/2 -story building layout allows for a clear division between private and public functions. Entertainment and amenities are based on the ground floor, while the rather private living and sleeping areas are situated on the upper level. The residence cantilevers over the carport and the outdoor patio allowing a synthetic relationship between indoor and outdoor activities. The pavilion is an aesthetically pleasing addition to the cultural qualities of the community, and resonates with a larger audience. Our proposed “Campus Pavilion” project will celebrate the notion of public domain, serves as an addition to the qualities of the SLCC building, the campus in large, and its community. It is our goal that the project will support the redevelopment of the campus, activate the area and resonate with a larger national and international audience. This design proposal focuses on a idea of a communication device. The art work is connecting the SLCC building to the larger campus. The form is conceived as a pavilion type which allows larger gatherings, formal - and informal use and will have a high frequency usage of students. The design proposal reflects these qualities with a strong formal sculptural expression and coloration creating a identity and recognizable figure. The form allows for community gathering, visual appreciation, and the building of a strong identity for the SLCC building. The building is situated on a lot in between two neighboring houses and orientated in a east-west direction. The synthetic figure ground relationship is established through a topological gradient operation, blend both house and ground including its multi- informative components. The main facade faces the canal while the back facade is split and organized into two separate facades based on its composed archetype profiles. The house questions the suburban facade orientated parallel to the road by relocating the entrance situation, and repositioning of the garage/ car port from its traditional sense. The three-story building layout allows for a clear division between private and public functions. Entertainment and amenities are based on the ground floor, while the rather private living and sleeping areas are situated on the upper levels. The orientation of the ground floor towards the public path along the canal is an opportunity to the extend and blend both spaces. A movable roller shutter opens up on demand, extending the interior space to the outside and vice versa. This connectivity creates spatial ambiguity between intrinsic and extrinsic conditions. The project is conceived as an instigator for circulation and participation. This ambiguous understanding of relationships between atmosphere, construct, and material qualities will enhance and reflect the communicative and interactive nature of the project. The design reflects our strong ambition of research in material properties and new deployments. The bridge is designed as a hybrid of structural metal and Corian. The outer surface of the construct is a dark engraved Corian surface which blends and playfully abstracts the bridge into one volume, while the inner surface of the construct represents a structural recalling expression of intrinsic values and dynamic forces.
